Shield fern

Etymology Polystichum is from the Greek polys, many, + stichos, row. The sori are in many rows. Description Rhizome: erect, scales. Frond: evergreen, monomorphic or weakly dimorphic. Stipe: scaly, vascular bundles: 4 or more, in an arc. Blade: 1-3 pinnate, lanceolate; at emergence the croziers droop backwards, glossy, linear to lanceolate scales below, no hairs. Pinnae: usually an upper side lobe, costae grooved above, grooves discontinuous from rachis to costae, segments spinulose, veins free, forked, anadromic. Sori: round, in 1 (2) rows between midrib and margin, indusium: peltate or rarely absent, central, sporangia: yellow or brownish to black. Distinctive Characteristics similar to Dryopteris, but distinguished by the upward ear on the pinnae, commonly spiny margins, the peltate indusia, and discontinuous grooving between rachis and costa. 상록성이다

근경: 짧고 직립하거나 비스듬히 선다

엽병: 길이 20-40cm이며 기부의 인편은 난상피침형-피침형으로 인편의 중심부에 검은색 부분이 섞여 있다

엽신: 길이 40-60cm이고 2회우상복엽이며 장타원상 피침형으로 잎 표면에 광택이 거의 없다.

포자낭군: 엽신의 아래쪽 가운데부터 바깥으로 붙고, 소우편의 아랫부분 위쪽 열편부터 붙는다

생육지: 산지의 숲 아래 계류가

엽신 상부는 급히 좁아져 꼬리 모양을 한다 

엽병 아래쪽 인편은 중앙이 검은색, 가장자리가 담갈색이다 

하부 우편에서 포자낭군은 열편의 귀 부근에 우선적으로 붙는다. 포장낭군은  열편 자강자리에 붙는다.
