Annuals, 10–50+ cm. Aerial nodes proximal to first peduncle usually 5–10+, distalmost 1–3 internodes 4–7(–10) cm. Leaves: basal and cauline on proximal 3/4–7/8 of plant heights; petioles 8–35(–120) mm; blades simple or 1(–2)-pinnately lobed with 3–9+ lobes, simple blades or terminal lobes elliptic or lanceolate to oblanceolate or linear, 25–55+ × (1–)2–9(–20) mm. Peduncles 6–15+ cm. Calyculi of lance-deltate to linear bractlets 6–9(–12+) mm. Phyllaries lance-ovate, 7–9+ mm. Ray laminae yellow, usually each with a proximal, red-brown to purple spot or band, 15–20+ mm. Disc corollas 3–4 mm, apices red-brown to purple. Cypselae 1.2–1.8 mm, wingless (margins ± inrolled adaxially, ± corky). 2n = 26.

잎

잎은 대생하며 1회우상복엽이며 밑부분의 것은 엽병이 있으나 윗부분의 것은 엽병이 없고 측열편은 타원형 또는 난형이며 정열편은 가장 크고 둥근 난형으로서 가장자리가 모두 밋밋하다.

열매

수과로 가장자리는 두껍고 도란형이다.

꽃

꽃은 6-8월에 피며 지름 2.5-5cm로서 원줄기와 가지 끝에 1개씩 달리고 총포편은 2줄로 배열되며 외포편은 8개이고 선형으로서 녹색이며 내포편은 넓은 타원형이고 갈색이다. 설상화는 8개로서 황금색이며 윗가장자리가 불규칙하게 5개로 갈라지고 밑부분이 자갈색 또는 흑자색이며 통상화는 황갈색 또는 암자색이다.

줄기

높이 30-60cm이고 윗부분에서 가지가 갈라지며 잔털이 있거나 없다.

Annuals, (10–)30–70(–150+) cm. Leaves: proximal blades usually 1(–3)-pinnate, terminal lobes lance-ovate to oblanceolate, 10–60 × 5–25 mm; cauline blades usually 1–2(–3)-pinnate, rarely simple, simple blades or terminal lobes lance-linear to linear or filiform, 10–45 × 0.5–2(–5+) mm. Peduncles 1–5(–15+) cm. Calyculi of deltate-lanceolate bractlets 1–3+ mm. Phyllaries ± lance-oblong to lance-ovate, 4–7(–9) mm. Ray laminae usually yellow with red-brown blotch, sometimes red-brown in proximal 1/3–9/10 and distally yellow, rarely yellow throughout, 12–18+ mm. Disc corollas 2.5–3+ mm. 잎

잎은 대생하며 엽병이 있고 2회우상으로 갈라지며 열편은 선형 또는 피침형이고 윗부분의 잎은 엽병이 없으며 갈라지지 않는다.

열매

수과는 선상 긴 타원형으로서 안으로 굽고 날개가 없으며 흔히 밑부분에 유두상의 돌기가 있고 관모가 없다.

 꽃

꽃은 7-10월에 피고 줄기나 가지 끝에 지름 3~4cm의 두상화가 1개씩 달려 위를 향해 핀다. 총포는 길이 6~7mm이고 총포편은 1~2줄로 배열되며 선상 긴 타원형 또는 삼각형이고 길이 2mm정도로서 가장자리가 막질이며 내포편은 난형이고 길이 5-6mm이다. 설상화는 길이 7~15mm로서 끝이 얕게 3개로 갈라지며 황색이고 기부는 짙은 적색이며 8개가 1줄로 배열한다. 통상화는 자갈색 또는 흑갈색이다.

높이 10-30cm에서 1m정도로 자라며 가늘고 상부에서 여러 갈래로 가지가 갈라지며 털이 없다.
