호모초속은 어느 나라에서도 충분히 연구되지 않은듯 싶다. 아래에 꼬리호모초로 동정한 것도 종에 대한 기재문과는 완전히는 합치하지 않는다 .

크기
식물체의 높이는 30~50cm 정도이다.
잎
잎은 선형으로 길이 3~6cm, 폭 1~2mm이며 1맥이고 밑부분은 가늘어지고 가장자리는 전연이며 끝부분은 뾰족하다.
꽃
총상꽃차례는 가늘고 얇으며 헐겁게 달린다. 포는 달걀모양, 피침형이며 길이 1.5~3cm, 폭 1~1.5mm로 낭과보다 뚜렷하게 좁고 가장자리는 좁은 막이 있다. 화피조각은 1~3개이며 위쪽 것은 달걀모양으로 크기가 약 1.5mm이고 막이 있으며 밑부분은 대체로 둥글고 끝부분은 둥근 형태로 불규칙한 작은 거치가 있다. 아래쪽 화피조각은 삼각형으로 작다. 수술은 3~5개이고 수술대는 화피조각보다 약 1.5배 길다.
열매
낭과는 대체로 둥글고 길이 4~5mm, 폭 3.5~4.5mm이며 털이 없고 밑부분은 쐐기모양이거나 심장형이고 끝부분은 뾰족하나 끝이 오목하다. 날개는 폭이 약 1mm로서 잎가장자리는 불규칙한 작은 거치가 있다.
줄기
줄기는 녹색으로 얇고 매끄러운 원통형이며 성긴 털이 있다. 가지는 가늘며 길이 10~25cm 정도이다.

Plants 30-50 cm tall. Stem green, terete, sparsely hairy; branches slender, 10-25 cm. Leaves linear, 3-6 cm × 1-2 mm, 1-veined, base attenuate, margin entire, apex acuminate, mucronate. Spikelike inflorescence slender, terete, loose; bracts ovate to lanceolate, 1.5-3 cm × 1-1.5 mm, distinctly narrower than utricle, margin narrowly membranous. Perianth segments 1-3, upper one ovate, ca. 1.5 mm, membranous, base subrounded, apex rounded, irregularly denticulate, lower segments triangular, smaller. Stamens 3-5; filaments ca. 1.5 × as long as perianth segments. Utricle suborbicular, 4-5 × 3.5-4.5 mm, glabrous, base broadly cuneate or cordate, apex acute-emarginate; wing ca. 1 mm wide, margin irregularly denticulate; beak ca. 1.2 mm, apex ca. 1/4 as long as beak.
