Desc from S&D

Plant stemless, flowering 4 dm high;

Leaves 10 in a utricular rosette;

Sheaths distinct, subelliptic, 6 cm long, 6 cm wide, densely lepidote;

Blades ligulate, rounded and apiculate, 25 cm long, 25-30 mm wide, green, sparsely lepidote, laxly serrate with spines 0.5 mm long.

Scape decurved, glabrous, 4 mm in diameter;

Scape-bracts few, remote, triangular, acute, entire, roseate, glabrous.

Inflorescence simple, very laxly 14 flowered, anthesis beginning at the middle; rhachis geniculate, terete, glabrous.

Floral bracts triangular, acute, the lowest 17 mm long, 11 mm wide, much exceeded by the sepals, enfolding the base of the ovary, nerved, entire;

Flowers sessile, 21 mm long.

Sepals 10 mm long including the 3 mm terminal spine, half-connate, 5 mm wide, roseate, glabrous, the free lobes asymmetric with a rounded lateral wing;

Petals erect, free, broadly rounded and emarginate, cucullate, blue, bearing 2 fimbriate scales at base;

Stamens included, the episepalous free, the epipetalous adnate to the height of the scales, the anthers 4 mm long, subdorsifixed;

Ovary 6-8 mm long, 7 mm wide, subtrigonous, roseate, glabrous, the epigynous tube distinct, infundibuliform; placentae submedian; ovules obtuse.

Type. Reitz & Klein 4056 (holotype, HBR), Campo Alegre, Santa Catarina, Brazil, 6 Sep 1957.

Distribution. Epiphytic in thickets and Araucaria forest, 900-1000 m alt, Sao Paulo to Santa Catarina, Brazil.
