분류: 부처꽃과 (Lythraceae)

국명: 보통 '쿠페아' 또는 '구페아'로 불리나 이는 속명이기때문에 정확한 이름은 아니다.

영명:  False Heather, Mexican Heather

Cuphea 속은 아메리카 온대 및 열대 지역이 원산지인 식물로 초본및 관목이며 일년생 초본도 있다. 약 260종이 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이들 중 몇 종류는 관상식물로 많이 키우기도 하고 또   C. ignea 'David Verity' 와  C. micropetalia 같은 종류는 밀원식물로 벌새들이 좋아한다.    또 열대 지방에서 자라는 몇 종류에서는 코코넛 기름이니 야자유를 대신하는 식용유 또는 제트유나  바이오디젤유를 추출하기도 한다. 미국에서는 유지종자식물로  쿠페아를 옥수수, 콩, 밀과 함께 윤작하기도 한다.
