A new record of Aconitum carmichaelii var. truppelianum (Ulbr.) W.T.Wang & P.K.Hsiao (Ranunculaceae) from the Korean Peninsula

Diagnosis. Herb pseudo-annual. Tubers 1, obconical to oblong, dark brown; lateral tubers 2–4. Stems erect, 0.5–1.5 m a tall, 1–1.5 cm in diameter, pale brown, rarely branched at the middle. Leaves 10–22, alternate, petiolate; proximal leaves 3–7, withered at anthesis; middle ones long petiolate, 1.5–5(–9) cm long; leaves blade pentagonal, 6–12 × 9–18 cm, 3-sect, adaxially appressed and curved pubescent on the surface and veins, dark-green, abaxially appressed and curved pubescent or rarely glabrous on the veins, grayish green; central segment rhombic, sometimes lanceolate-rhombic, apex acuminate, margins incised; lateral segment obliquely flabellate, unequally 2-parted, base slightly cordate. Inflorescence terminal or axillary, panicle-raceme or raceme, 10–40 cm long, 10–60 flowers; rachis and pedicels densely spreading pubescent; proximal bracts leaflike, 3-fid; pedicels 1.5–4.5 (–6) cm long, with 2 bracteoles at middle or below; bracteoles lanceolate to linear, 3–5 × 0.4–0.5 mm. Flowers bilaterally symmetric, 2.0–3.5 cm high. Sepals 5, falling off before fruiting, blueish purple or yellowish white, abaxially pubescent; lower sepals 2, 1–1.8 cm long, ones oblong, the other ones obovate, with short and spreading pubescent; lateral sepals 2, round-reniform, 1.4–1.8 cm long, abaxially spreading pubescent; upper sepal 1, galeate, hemispheric to rounded-conic, usually beaked, 1.8–2.5 cm high, 1.5–2.7 cm wide, adaxially spreading pubescent, margin slightly concave at base. Petals 2, glabrous, distinct, blueish purple to blue, concealed in hood, nectary present; limb ca. 0.8–1.1 cm long; lip ca. 5 mm long, lobe white, dilated, apex slightly concave; spur circinate, ca. 1.2–2.2 mm long. Stamens 45–60, glabrous, ca. 0.9–1.2 cm long; filaments expanded at base, ca. 7–9 mm long, slightly 2-denticulate or entire. Carpels 3–5, densely or sparsely pubescent, rarely glabrous; style remained, ca. 3–4 mm long. Follicles aggregate, ca 1–2 cm long, erect, oblong, sessile. Seeds 10–12 per follicle, ca. 2–5 mm long, dark brown; lamellae small, with irregular and membranous wings.
Vernacular (Korean) name. Song-I-ba-kkot (송이바꽃)
