형태
줄기는 높이 50~100㎝이며 곧게서고 홈줄이 있으며 털이 없고 윗부분에서 가지가 갈라진다. 근경이 포복한다. 근생엽은 꽃이 필 때 쓰러지거나 남아 있으며 선상 피침형이고 양끝이 좁으며 길이 14~40㎝, 폭 5~30㎜로서 양면에 털이 없고 가장자리가 밋밋하다. 줄기잎은 어긋나기하며 중앙부의 것은 엽병이 없고 길이 7~14㎝, 너비 4~10㎜이며 위로 올라갈수록 작아져서 마침내 선형으로 된다. 꽃은 8~10월에 피고 가지 끝과 원줄기 끝에 산방상으로 달리며 화경은 길이 13~30㎜이다. 총포는 넓은 선형이고 길이 13㎜, 폭 8~10㎜이며 포편은 2줄로 배열되고 외편은 길이 2~4㎜로서 달걀 모양이며 둔두이고 끝에 적자색이 돌며 가장자리에 털이 있다. 중편과 내편은 선상피침형으로서 길이 4~6㎜이며 둔두 또는 첨두이고 털이 약간 있다. 꽃은 모두 혀꽃으로서 꽃부리는 황색이고 길이 20㎜, 폭 3㎜이며 끝이 5쪽이다. 수과는 길이 5.5~6㎜, 지름 1㎜ 정도로서 흑색 점이 있거나 흑색이고 원주형이며 4개의 능선이 있고 관모는 길이 7㎜로서 갈색이며 9월에 익는다.

Herbs, perennial, rhizomatous. Stem 60-100 cm tall, erect, branched in upper half, leafy. Basal leaves few, present or absent at anthesis. Basal and lower stem leaves linear-lanceolate, usually 15-40 × 0.5-2(-3) cm, base ± expanded and semiamplexicaul, margin entire, apex acute to acuminate. Middle and upper stem leaves similar to basal leaves but gradually smaller upward on stem; uppermost stem leaves linear-subulate, reduced in size. Synflorescence paniculiform to paniculiform-corymbiform, usually with 10-25 capitula. Capitula with 20-25 florets; peduncle wiry, usually 0.5-3 cm. Involucre cylindric, 1-1.3 cm. Phyllaries with an obtuse apex; outer phyllaries ovate to broadly lanceolate, longest 5-6 mm; inner phyllaries 12-14, apically ciliate. Florets pale yellow. Achene ca. 6 mm. Pappus ca. 7 mm, ± caducous. Fl. and fr. Jul-Sep.
