소수는 거의 구형, 1.5-2.5mm X 1.5-2mm
수과는 도란형-광도란형으로 약 1mm으로 둔한 삼릉형,
가로로 장타원모양의 표피세포가 있어 그물무늬가 있다

잎
잎은 실같이 가늘고 좌우 2줄로 배열하며 폭 0.3mm정도이다. 엽초는 길이 1-2cm이다.
열매
수과는 거꿀달걀모양이며 흰빛이 돌고 길이 0.6mm로서 둔한 삼각형이며 표면에 돌기가 있다.
꽃
꽃은 8-10월에 피고 꽃차례에 많은 가지가 갈라지며 가지 끝이나 포액에 소수가 달린다. 포는 2-4개로서 침형이고 짧다. 소수는 난상 원형이며 길이 2.5-4mm, 지름 1.5-2mm로서 원두 또는 둔두이고 적갈색이다. 비늘조각은 달걀모양이며 나선상으로 배열하고 길이 1mm이며 끝이 둔하고 뒷면이 튀어나온다. 암술대는 길이 1.5mm로서 가늘고 털이 없으며, 암술머리는 3개이다.

Culms tufted, (1.5-)10-60 cm tall, flatly 4-angled, striate, bearing 1-3 bladeless sheaths at base.
Basal leaf sheaths (1.5-)3.5-9 cm, sometimes setaceous, compressed bilaterally, attenuate apically, mouth obliquely split.
Leaves shorter to longer than culm; sheath bilaterally compressed, abaxially with a membranous and rust-colored margin, adaxially keeled, mouth obliquely split; ligule absent; leaf blade ensiform(칼 모양), (1-)1.5-2 mm wide, bilaterally compressed, margin sparsely and finely serrulate, apically attenuate into a setaceous tip. Involucral bracts 2-4, setaceous, base dilated, margin rust-colored and membranous. Inflorescence a compound, decompound, or rarely simple anthela, subdense, with many spikelets; rays 3-6, 0.8-5 cm, slender, scabrid. Spikelets solitary, globose to subglobose, 1.5-5 × 1.5-3 mm, apex rounded. Glumes chestnut-brown or dark brown, ovate, 1-1.3 or 3.5-6 mm, membranous, 3-veined forming an abaxial keel, midvein green, lateral veins brown, apex obtuse. Stamens 2; anthers oblong, ca. 0.7 mm, ca. 1/2 as long as filaments, apex obtuse. Style 3-sided, not ciliate, basally slightly inflated; stigmas 3, ca. 1/2 as long as style. Nutlet straw-yellow, obovoid to broadly obovoid, ca. 1 mm, obtusely 3-sided, verruculose with transversely oblong reticulation. Fl. and fr. May-Oct.

수과 퍼온 사진
倒卵形で3稜あり長さ約0.6mm、表面には浅い横長の格子紋があり、まばらに瘤がある。
柱頭は3岐し、柱基は少しふくらみ、やや盤状となる。

* 위에서 어른지기로 올린 것은 <국가생물종지식정보시스템>과 오용자 저 한국산사초과식물에서는 들하늘지기로 소개하나 하늘지기님은 Fimbristylis pierotii Miquel를 들하늘지기로, Fimbristylis complanata f. exaltata T.Ko를 어른지기로 소개한다. <국가생물종지식정보시스템에서 F. complanata f. exaltata의 이명을 F. pierotii로 소개하고 일어명을 ノハラテンツキ 로 한 것은 잘못이다. <국생종>의 F. complanata f. exaltata에 대한 종 설명도 F. pierotii에 해당된다. 이러한 혼란이 생긴 이유는 이 두 종의 일어명이 비슷하기때문으로 보인다. F. pierotii Miquel은 ノハラテンツキ(野原点突)이고, F. complanata f. exaltata는 ノテンツキ (野点突)로 둘 다 우리말로 들하늘지기로 번역될 수 있기때문이다.
위 두 종의 차이는 아래와 같다
F. complanata f. exaltata: 근경이 옆으로 벋지 않고, 인편이 1맥이다.
F. pierotii : 근경이 옆으로 벋고, 인편이 3맥이다
